Lesson 1. Difference between 1^st, 2^nd, 3^rd conditional.

There are the following types of conditional sentences:

0 (always true). Example: If you press this button, machine gives you the snack.

1 (about future, real). Example: If the weather is fine on Sunday, we will go for a walk.

2 (about now, unreal). Example: If I had 6 arms, I would do the housework quickly.

3 (about past, unreal, impossible to change). Example: If you had told me, I would have changed my mind.

There are 2 parts in conditional sentences. "If" part and "main" part.

Example: If the weather is fine, we will go for a walk.

In all IF parts we make "ONE STEP BACK" from what we are thinking.

1st conditional - we think about future

2nd conditional - we think about now

3rd conoditional - we think about past.

If parts:

1st conditional - we think about future. -1 step =present.

If the weather IS good, ...

2nd conditional - we think about now -1 step = past.

if I lived in London, ...

3rd conoditional - we think about past -1 step = very very past (past perfect).

If you had told me, ...
